POLICE INSPECTOR JAVERT - Chris Richardson
Chris
Richardson will be playing the principal role of Javert in Les
Misérables at the Theatre Royal.
Chris Richardson is among Tasmania's leading resident baritones and comes
with an enormous reputation for his world-class voice. He has won numerous
national awards and in 2005 was a finalist in the Australian National
Eisteddfod's National Operatic Aria Award in Canberra.
Chris started his career as a pianist and cellist, achieving Associate
Diploma standard in both piano and cello by age 16. After two years of a
Bachelor of Music in Classical Piano at the Tasmanian Conservatorium of
Music he changed his Major to Classical Voice. In the following year at
the City of Hobart Eisteddfod Competition, he won for both… Chris received
the adjudicator's choice trophy for the most promising pianist and first
place in the DJ Mazda Open Operatic Aria section!
Chris has featured as bass soloist in numerous classical oratorio
productions including Handel's Messiah, Bach's Magnificat,
Mendelssohn's
Elijah, and the Australian Premiere and subsequent performance of
Fridges Hidas's Requiem under the baton of Piroshka Varga. Chris
has also performed numerous new works in association with Hobart-based
IHOS Opera including the lead role of Nicola Tesla in the world premiere
of Tesla - Lighning in His Hand by Constantine Koukias in the
inaugural 10 Days On The Island Festival (2003). He has played lead roles
in Mozart's Cosi fan Tutte, Sondheim's Into the Woods, ABC
Classic FM national broadcasts, and appeared numerous times at Carols by
Candlelight and Christmas events such as Hobart's Christmas at the Odeon.
Chris resides in Hobart with his wife, Amy, and is enjoying a blissfully
busy season with three children under 5. Amidst his performance schedule,
Chris teaches voice and is involved with Christian Ministry work at
Christian City Church Hobart.
