Gina
Bashford’s performances in Music Theatre include Me and My Girl, The
Secret Garden, Side by Side by Sondheim, Tarantara! Tarantara!, Sweeney
Todd and the lead role of Maria in West Side Story at Hobart's
Theatre Royal in 2002
In Opera, Gina has performed the principal roles of both Dido and
Belinda in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, the title role of Angelica in
Puccini's Suor Angelica; and Fiordiligi in Mozart's Cosi fan
Tutte amongst others.
She also recently took up the role of Orchestral Director,
conducting the Orchestra and Performers in Cats (Exitleft
Productions) starring Debra Byrne. Gina graduated from the Tasmanian
Conservatorium of Music in 2000 having obtained a Bachelor of Music with
Honours and a Graduate Diploma of Music. She went on and successfully
completed a Bachelor of Teaching, specialising in Music, in 2002.
Gina now runs her own Singing Studio and is on staff at the
University of Tasmania Conservatorium of Music where she is
director/conductor of the Vocal Ensemble. Gina has been the recipient of
numerous awards including the DJ Mazda Operatic Aria at the City of Hobart
Eisteddfod in 1999. In the same year, she was invited and given a
scholarship, to travel to Melbourne where she participated in the Master
Course program with British Mezzo Soprano Sarah Walker at the prestigious
Australian National Academy of Music.
Gina won the Victorian ANATS Bursary in 2006, awarded to a promising
Australian Vocal Teacher. This enabled her to attend ANATS Viva la Voce!
National Conference in Canberra during October 2006. This involved
Professional Development in both teaching Contemporary and Classical Voice
Production and Performance, with acclaimed voice specialists from around
the world, including Anthony Warlow, and staff from The Royal Academy of
Music in the UK.
She is really looking forward to ‘treading the boards’ at the
Theatre Royal once more – especially in such a famous and brilliant show
as Les Mis!
